Doug Stephan was born in
Cambridge, Massachusetts, not
far from where he hosts his
daily syndicated radio program,
DOUG STEPHAN’S GOOD DAY.
He became fascinated with radio
at an early age and was
particularly fond of WBZ
in the 1960’s. His favorite
radio personality was Dick
Summer, who Doug says has had
the greatest influence on his
radio career and style.
After high school, he
attended Heidelberg College
in Tiffin, Ohio, where he
majored in speech and political
science. At Heidelberg, Doug
experienced his first taste of
working in radio on the campus
radio station.
Following his graduation from
Heidelberg, he became a middle
school English teacher and for
ten years ran several family
businesses, including a clothing
manufacturing business and
several transportation
companies. In his spare time,
Doug continued to pursue his
passion for radio and took jobs
at as many radio stations as he
could find openings. He was
heard regularly on WBZ-FM,
WJIB and WKOX in
Boston and WJAR, in
Providence, Rhode Island. Sunday
mornings he would be on the air
at WKOX, Sunday
afternoons on WJIB and
Sunday evenings on WJAR.
In the early 1980s, Doug moved
into radio management for
several years as Operations
Manager for Boston’s then All
News station, WEEI.
In 1987, the former
American Radio Network chose
Doug to host a new program,
“GOOD DAY USA.” Then the show
was taken over by the News
Talk Radio Network and later
the Sun Network.
Eventually, Doug took ownership
of the program and changed the
name to DOUG STEPHAN’S GOOD DAY.
He took on this effort
completely by himself,
purchasing his own satellite
time, setting up a studio in his
home, finding radio stations to
run his program and selling the
advertising. His goal was to
provide a
quality program for
stations that could not afford a
local personality or the large
staff it takes to produce a
program like GOOD DAY. In those
early days he continued to hold
down on-air positions at KABC,
Los Angeles, WCKY,
Cincinnati, KMOX, St.
Louis and WPBR, Palm
Beach. From that point on, the
show began to take off and since
its inception, DOUG STEPHAN’S
GOOD DAY has been heard on over
a thousand radio stations.
Today, his show is broadcast on
three radio networks. He has
assembled a team of professional
production, technical and
support staffs and is
represented by several
advertising agencies. For the
past four years, Doug has also
been moving up the list of top
ten syndicated personalities in
TALKERS Magazine.
Since it’s beginning, DOUG
STEPHAN’S GOOD DAY has
originated from all over the
country and around the world.
Doug owns just about every piece
of remote broadcasting equipment
on the market.
In April of 2002, Doug took
over the TALKRADIO COUNT DOWN
SHOW and has re-worked the
format and expanded it from two
to three hours.
Doug Stephan is on the Board
of Trustees at Heidelberg
College and the 4H
Foundation Board. He has
received numerous industry
awards and has provided
community service for Big
Brothers.
